■ With authentic sound functions
The modern BR 23 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn “outlived” the Prussian P 8 – it was intended as its replacement – by only one year. It had an output of 1,314 kW, weighed 131.8 t and drove forward at 110 km/h or tender ahead at 85 km/h. On December 31, 1971, there were 76 machines in maintenance inventory and stationed without exception in three railway depots (Saarbrücken, Kaiserslautern and Crailsheim). After the official decommissioning in December 1975, 8 examples were preserved for posterity, some of which were still operational, at clubs and in museums.
