Tender locomotive A4 4-6-2 60016 'Silver King', epoch IV.
The LNER Gresley A4 is one of Britain's most iconic express locomotives. Her streamlined body is a classic symbol of the 1930s attitude to speed and design, which represented increasing competition for the railroads from road and air transport. The LNER board knew they needed to make travel between major cities faster, more comfortable and more reliable.
2511 Silver King was the third A4 locomotive built to haul Silver Jubilee service. The locomotive entered service in November 1935 in the unique LNER Silver livery. The locomotive was used under the BR before being scrapped in 1965, making it one of the longest serving A4 locomotives.
