Oiling, red livery with green tender
Highlights:
• new tender
The locomotive 18 201 was rebuilt in 1961 by the Halle Mechanical Engineering Testing and Development Center based on the 61 002, a former Henschel streamlined locomotive. The aim was to create a powerful express train locomotive for use on high-speed routes. From 1987 onwards, it was often used with an additional tender to increase its range for long-distance journeys. The additional tender, a converted standard tender, is still used today for special journeys with the locomotive.
