Railway company car Xk-v 9091 of the RhB
Between 1911 and 1913, various manufacturers delivered 115 K1 boxcars with a 4.2 m wheelbase. In 1948 the RhB began to modernize some of these vehicles with new bodies. In the mid-1970s, many other cars were subjected to a similar modernization program. Some vehicles even received advertising slogans in their heyday and shaped the image of increasingly colorful freight trains.
The brown two-axle vehicles only had high season at the end of the year when they came up and down from the alpine pastures. The transport of cattle and their companions then takes place in block trains. The ever decreasing importance of general cargo led to a drastic decline in the need for two-axle boxcars in favor of special wagons. Some vehicles escaped the cutting torch and were also used as railway company cars.
To this day, some of the Gbk-v 5502… 5614 from the second modernization series have been able to survive as D2 makeshift vans - they are mainly used in nostalgic or adventure trains.
