With the success of the iron construction for express train carriages, the Prussian State Railway also procured four-axle baggage cars of this design. The main dimensions of the previous wooden carriages were retained, but the construction was converted to iron profiles. A key feature was that the doors at the ends of the carriages were no longer recessed, but mounted directly at the end. Further differences included the rivets on the side walls and the elimination of the truss frame. Cars of this design were built for both express trains with bellows and fast trains without gangways well into the 1920s. Baggage cars were a common sight on express trains until the 1950s; many later went to the German Federal Railway (DB) and the German State Railway (DR).
