INFORMATION ON THE MODEL
In 1941, the Heidelberg company Waggonfabrik Fuchs delivered the first 6-axle gas tank wagons to the German Reichsbahn. With a length over buffers of 14.6 m and a tank volume of 42.5 m³, these vehicles were a good deal larger than the tank wagons for acids that were built in the same way. The wagons for transporting gases were needed for the transport of butane and propane. In West Germany, the wagons were sent from the Deutsche Reichsbahn to the private wagon rental company VTG, among others. In the East, the wagons were hired directly by the Deutsche Reichsbahn. To prevent the gas loaded in the containers from overheating and expanding due to sunlight, thereby increasing the pressure in the container, some of the wagons were fitted with a sunshade. There is evidence that the boiler access was modified for wagons of the Reichsbahn East. This could no longer be accessed from the sides, but only from the handbrake platform.
