In the 1920s, the Deutsche Reichsbahn received the first self-unloading hopper cars for transporting ballast to track construction sites. The most important innovation on the wagons was an ingenious system of flaps and chutes, with which the loaded ballast could be distributed very precisely next to and between the rails.
When constructing the new funnel wagon, PIKO placed the greatest focus on this important property and thus created a model with a very high play value. As with the original, sand and fine gravel can be distributed via flaps.
