"The versions of our model as we have now planned them are based on the specifications for the color scheme of the time. When the locomotives returned from the Soviet Union were reconditioned, the frame and wheel center were painted black in accordance with the regulation that came into force in 1955. E. 77 25 received an interim examination in February 1960; our model represents this state.

In order to better recognize cracks, DR electric locomotives from 1961 onwards, according to DV 997, were then painted the frame and wheel center in red, this was done as part of the general inspection. However, since no more general inspections were carried out on the E 77 at that time, none of the locomotives should have been repainted accordingly by the time they were taken out of service.

If there was an E 77 with red wheel centers during operating hours, only color photos could safely prove that. There are black-and-white photos from 1965 in which an interpretation of the color of the coupling wheels is possible. But only with these, not with the forerunners. That would be illogical. Or it could just be pollution.

The present day E 77 10 museum locomotive is an exception, of course. Before it was operationally refurbished, it was prepared in 1971 as an exhibit for the vehicle exhibition in Radebeul with a red frame and red wheels - in accordance with the regulations at the time. During the operational refurbishment in its original state, the frame was then painted black again, the wheels remained red.

Of course, in the course of time there will also be a TILLIG E 77 10 locomotive with red wheelsets (as of May 17, 2021). "
