In 1969, the French State Railways (SNCF) put the CC 6500 electric locomotives, the most powerful locomotives in French railway history up to that point, into service. In the first years of use, the locomotives were mainly used in front of well-known express trains such as the "Mistral" or the "Capitole" due to their maximum speed of 200 km/h. Later, over time, the area of application also shifted to heavy freight trains.
