The Nightjet locomotive 1216 012 is now the second Taurus locomotive in this design, alongside the ÖBB 1116 195. A striking feature of the 1216 is the red stripe on the two front sides, which is necessary for the Italian registration.
With the timetable change in December 2016, ÖBB put the Europe-wide night train service under the brand name Nightjet into operation. Nightjet (NJ) has also been a type of train since December 2017. The redesign of the car was done with adhesive foils. The eye-catching design is made in midnight blue with an implied starry sky.
