The RENFE series 7900/279
Locomotives 279 (ex 7900) were the first of the large family of Japanese locomotives to be commissioned by RENFE. This series of 16 units, acquired between 1967 and 1968, were designed for use on lines of different voltages, hence their dual voltage equipment, vaguely suited to 1500 and 3000 V operation. In addition, it was versatile and was suitable for both the transport of goods and travelers. The results were so good that the company subsequently placed several orders for similar locomotives, resulting in the entire 289 and 269 series.
