For operation on less frequented routes, a new local rail car was purchased from Deutsche Bahn from 1999 to replace older designs. The choice fell on the RegioShuttle 1 developed by ADtranz, which DB AG designated as the BR 650. This type of vehicle has prevailed mainly in southern Germany. The innovative, trapezoidal window bands are particularly characteristic of the RS 1. Two diesel engines, each with almost 250 hp, bring the low-floor train to a top speed of 120 km/h. With an empty weight of 40 tons, the railcar, which can seat up to 101 passengers, is rather a lightweight.
