From 2007 to 2016 there was cooperation between the Danish State Railways (DSB) and Deutsche Bahn AG (DB AG) for traffic between Denmark and Germany with the diesel ICE. For this purpose, the trains were u. a. retrofitted with the Danish train protection system ATC. On the so-called "Vogelfluglinie" between Copenhagen and Hamburg, the trains used the ferry connection to cross the Fehmarnbelt.
