"IC 2" is the new name for the TWINDEXX-Vario® trains used by DB Fernverkehr since the timetable change on December 13, 2015. As early as 2010, Bombardier Transportation received an initial order for 27 five-car double-decker coaches in combination with class 146.5 locomotives from a framework agreement concluded in advance for a total of 800 double-decker coaches with DB AG. A further 17 trains were ordered in March 2015. The TWINDEXX-Vario® is a further development of the proven double-decker platform from Görlitz. There are 468 seats per train, 70 of them in 1st class, and 10 bicycle parking spaces. The maximum speed of the trains is 160 km/h. In the new long-distance transport concept from DB Fernverkehr, the IC 2 will gradually replace all previous IC trains.
