Diesel locomotive 120 144 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.
■ Version with original muffler and wide Dessau decorative stripes.
■ Powerful, reliable model for prototypically long trains.
■ Based at Dresden Rbd, Dresden depot.
To accelerate the changeover to traction, the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) procured a total of 378 Class V 200 (later Class 120) locomotives from the Soviet Union between 1966 and 1975. Since the locomotives lacked factory-installed train heating, they were primarily used for freight train service. Due to their loud engine noise, the locomotives quickly became known as the "Taiga Drum."
