The G 1000 BB can be used for heavy shunting and light route service. It is approved in Germany, Italy, Luxembourg (CFL series 1100) and France. At SBB Cargo they have the series designation Am 842. Some locomotives were rented in 2006 by Railion Germany (now DB Cargo Germany) to test suitability as a possible successor to the 290/294 series. For this purpose, they received the series number 261, however, these bookkeeping numbers were not written on the vehicles.
