The W50 was designed in over 70 basic variants with different bodies. In addition to the flatbed vehicle, the tipper variant was the most widely used version from Ludwigsfelde and was produced in the highest numbers. The wide, low-pressure tires noticeably increased off-road capability. The W50 was suitable both for new development areas, where there were hardly any paved roads during the construction phases, and also for difficult terrain.

The fertilizer spreader body was one of the interchangeable bodies that could be used seasonally. In addition to use in agriculture, the spreading bodies were also used in winter service with minor modifications.
