IFA W50LA/A, fire brigade
The W50 was designed in over 70 basic variants with different structures. The LA/A represented the militarized and all-terrain version of the GDR's most important truck series.
In the 1980s, a large proportion of the production output in Ludwigsfelde was used for export in order to earn foreign exchange with the vehicles on the W50 and L60 chassis. They were exported in significant numbers in the military variant to countries such as Egypt, Iran or Iraq. There they were popular due to the low procurement prices and simply stayed behind in the field during combat missions if they were damaged by enemy fire. Vehicles from Ludwigsfelde with bullet holes are therefore not uncommon on photos or in reports about the Iraq wars, for example. The personnel carriers were taken over by the NVA or the border troops after the reunification due to the universal application possibilities of voluntary fire brigades. The FF Borkwalde used an LA/A as a train support vehicle from 1990, the FW Putlitz from 1992 as an equipment wagon or FF Markneukirchen from 1991 as a hose wagon SW2000, to name just a few examples of the numerous possibilities.
ESPEWE car models 1:87
The dump truck body will continue to be used on the chassis of the W50 and L60 in the 2023 model year. In addition to vehicles from the fire brigade and the NVA, an L60 from VEB Minol follows. The focus this year is on models from the Auto Trans Berlin combine and its operating units, as well as the successor companies that continued to use the existing vehicles with new lettering after reunification. Of course, a few new variants of the Espewe replica models of the S4000 tank pumper should not be missing.
