The W50 was designed in over 70 basic variants with different bodies. In addition to the flatbed vehicle, the tipper variant was the most widely used version from Ludwigsfelde and was produced in the highest numbers. The wide, low-pressure tires noticeably increased off-road capability. The W50 was suitable both for new development areas, where
there were hardly any paved roads during the construction phases, and also for difficult terrain. Vehicles with extended cabs were used on tours where additional accompanying personnel were required, e.g. for loading activities. The 4-seater freight forwarding cab was also mounted on the tipper chassis through conversions.
