The state automobile plant Avto WAS based in Togliatti, Russia
(Volga-Automobil-Werk) produced the model Shiguli, or Lada 2101 (export name, in English »the beloved« / »little one«) based on the model of the Fiat 124. In the first year of production, 200,000 pieces of the 60 hp Lada rolled off the assembly line and you can still find the former cult vehicle of the GDR on the road today.
