EK-Special 154 - Cradle of the DB
Railways of the Bi-Zone 1945-1952
In the years after the end of the Second World War, the German railway experienced a unique era between the destruction of the war and reconstruction. The occupying powers now determined life in the post-war period and also the events on the railways, where the Western Allies acted very differently. The largest block was formed by the railways in the American and British occupied areas - without the French zone and the Saarland. Thus the Deutsche Bundesbahn, founded in 1949, initially only came into being from the railways in the British and US zones, the "Bizone" in the United Economic Area.
The EK-Special follows the railway events from the end of the war to the beginnings of the DB in the area of the British and US zones. It also uses rare images to recall the achievements of the time and little-known beginnings in difficult times.
