On September 25, 1957, D-ALUB was handed over by Lockheed as the first of a total of six L-1649A “Starliner” to the still young Deutsche Lufthansa AG. It was the only example that did not have the “parabolas” that were common at the time on its three rudders. Since the time for the first jets was approaching - the first Boeing 707s were put into service in 1960 - the “Super Star”, as it was called by Lufthansa, was only granted its position as a long-haul flagship for a short time. D-ALUB was converted into a freighter in 1960 before she was finally sold in 1966.
