Shortly after the resumption of flight operations in 1955, Deutsche Lufthansa AG ordered the first Boeing 707 for long-haul routes. For the short and medium-haul range, she opted for the most modern version of the Vickers Viscount with weather radar and powerful propeller turbines. The original, registration D-ANAC, entered service in 1961 as the tenth of eleven Viscounts and later received the "fried egg" design with the yellow circle on a blue background on the tail, introduced in 1968, before being sold in 1971.
